January - April 2012

11 February: Spinning for beginners and improvers

One-to-one tuition for beginners, wheels and materials provided.  For those who can spin the day will offer an opportunity to share techniques, solve problems and learn from each other.  Guild equipment such as the hackle will be available for experimentation

10 March: Procion dyes: creating your own colour scheme

Procion dyes are easy to use chemical dyes, which can be used both for protein fibres (such as wool) and cellulose fibres (such as cotton).  In this workshop we will be using wool.  The workshop will cover simple blends of two colours from the basic dye range - the basis of developing the whole colour palette.  You will also dye three-colour skeins based on your own inspirational picture.

Procion dyes are easy to use and, like acid dyes, can be fully discharged.  This means that when used efficiently there is no leftover dye to go into drains or septic tanks.

Dyes and skeins will be supplied

14 April: Selecting, sorting and processing fleece

Strathpeffer Community Centre (TBC)

You will learn what to look for when selecting a fleece for spinning, how to sort and clean it , and how to prepare it for spinning by carding or combing
